Chile wins its group and will face the United States in field hockey semi-finals

The Chilean women's hockey team, known as "Las Diablas," fulfilled their task by defeating Cuba in the final match of Group B.

Monday, October 30th, 2023.- Chile defeated Cuba 2-0, finishing at the top of Group B in the Pan American field hockey, and they will now face the United States in the semi-finals.

"Las Diablas" fulfilled their task by defeating the Cuban team, with goals scored by Fernanda Villagrán and Denise Rojas, closing the group stage without conceding any goals.

With this victory, Chile ended the group stage with nine points and will face the United States, which finished second in Group A, in the semi-finals.

It was a perfect campaign for "Las Diablas," as Denise Rojas commented, "It was what we wanted, the goal we had set for ourselves. We improved as the tournament went on and finished first in the group."

Regarding the challenging match against Cuba, she mentioned, "They defended very well, but our team persisted, and in the end, we found the back of the net."

The semi-final against the United States will take place on Thursday, November 2, starting at 7:45 p.m. local time at the Centro de Hockey Césped del Estadio Nacional.

Looking ahead to this crucial match, Denise Rojas stated, "This is the game we wanted. We need to showcase our style of play and trust our game since we are more solid and have grown a lot."

The other semi-final will be between Argentina and Canada, scheduled as a prelude to Chile's match on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. local time.
