Canada easily overcomes Chile in male water polo

The North American team defeated the hosts 28-4 in a match valid for Group B.

Monday, October 30th, 2023.- Chile had its debut in male water polo at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games but had little to do against Canada in a Group B match.

The North Americans, who won the silver medal in Lima 2019, completely dominated the match, which took place in the pool at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos, where they emerged victorious with a score of 28-4.

The standout player of the game was Canadian Matthew Halajian, who scored a hat-trick.

Meanwhile, the goals for the home team were scored by Javier Cárcamo, Bruno Reginato, Franco Vera, and Moisés Castro.

Canada, collecting their first three points in Group B, will return to the pool on Tuesday, facing Cuba at 4:30 p.m. local time. Chile, on the other hand, will play on the same day but at 7:30 p.m. local time against Argentina.

The team that secures the gold medal, in both the male and female categories, will earn a ticket to the water polo event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
