Monday, October 30th, 2023.- Cuban Yunisleidy García secured the best time in the three qualifying heats for the female's 100 meters at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, on the day the Coliseo del Estadio Nacional opened for competition.
The Cuban athlete achieved a time of 11.53 seconds.
In the first heat, Mexican Cecilia Tamayo claimed the top spot with 11.66, followed by Liranyi Alonso from the Dominican Republic, who clocked 11.69, while Trinidad and Tobago's Reyare Thomas qualified as the best third with the same time of 11.69.
The second heat saw Jasmine Abrams qualify with the best time, recording 11.60. The Guyanese athlete also advanced to the 400 meters final, having the second-best time behind the local competitor Martina Weil.
In this heat, Brazilian Ana de Jesús finished second with 11.64, and Cuban Yamira García made it as the best third with 11.65.
Finally, the third heat also placed Trinidad and Tobago's athlete, Michelle-lee Ahye, in the final with a time of 11.64.
The final race is scheduled for next Wednesday, starting at 8:30 p.m.
