Brazil debuts by dominating Mexico in Male Handball

The South American team routed the Mexicans 51-19 at the Gimnasio Polideportivo de Viña del Mar, quickly taking the lead in Group B, awaiting the match between Chile and the Dominican Republic.

Monday, October 30th, 2023.- Male handball kicked off at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, with Brazil securing one of the most comfortable victories this Monday, by defeating Mexico 51-19 in Group B.

The South American team, coming off a bronze medal in Lima 2019, completely dominated the North Americans at the Gimnasio Polideportivo de Viña del Mar, boasting an impressive shooting accuracy of 81%.

The standout Brazilian players of the afternoon were Jean Pierre Dupoux with 13 goals and Leonardo Dutra with 10. Furthermore, goalkeeper Rangel Da Rosa achieved a 57% save rate, guarding the goal, while his teammate Leonardo Tercariol reached a 45% save rate.

Brazil's José De Toledo, who contributed with five goals, expressed his joy after the game.
"We entered the game very seriously, with some evenly matched initial minutes, and then we were able to demonstrate our superiority. Several of us play in Europe, and that makes a difference," he explained.

"It's not an easy championship because it's five matches in six days. Now, it's time to rest to be in the best shape for the next match. We're taking it day by day. The goal is to win game by game and see where we can go afterward," he concluded.

In this way, Brazil started this Santiago 2023 tournament on a high note, taking the lead in Group B, awaiting the outcome of the Chile vs. Dominican Republic match, which begins at 8:00 p.m. as the final event of the day.
