Brazilian Izabela Rodrigues secures first Athletics gold medal

The winner of the female discus throw secured the gold medal on her first of six attempts, with a distance of 59.63 meters.

Monday, October 30, 2023.- The female discus throw crowned Brazilian Izabela Rodrigues with the Pan American gold on Monday, with a record of 59.63 meters, which she achieved on her first attempt at Estadio Nacional.

The silver medal went to her compatriot Andressa Oliveira, who achieved a record of 59.29, also on her first throw.

The bronze was awarded to Jamaican Samantha Hall, with a mark of 59.14, achieved on her second attempt.

The major disappointment of this event was the American Veronica Fraley, who entered with the second-best performance (63.51), but all three of her throws were nullified.

Cuban Silinda Morales, who arrived at Santiago 2023 with the best mark among the finalists (65.06), finished in fourth place with 58.73.

The top national representative, Karen Gallardo, placed ninth with 55.36 meters, but it wasn't enough to make it to the medal round, missing out by one spot. Among the local participants, Catalina Bravo also took part, finishing in 11th place with 47.97.
