Canada wins and saves energy to face Argentina in field hockey

The pack of “Lobas” defeated Mexico 5-0 at the Centro Deportivo de Hockey Césped, securing their qualification for the regional pre-Olympics. Their next opponent will be Argentina in the semifinals of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games

Monday, October 30th.- Canada’s female's field hockey team defeated Mexico 5-0 in the second match of the final day of the group stage at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. This victory secured their spot in the semifinals and the pre-Olympic tournament for Paris 2024.

The course of the game, which took place at the Centro Deportivo de Hockey Césped at the Estadio Nacional, was under the control of the canadian team throughout. In the first half, they established the necessary lead on the scoreboard to ensure victory and the second place in Group B, awaiting the outcome of the last match between Chile and Cuba.

Karli Johansen scored three penalty corner goals early in the match against the Mexican team, allowing Canada to rotate their players and conserve energy for their next challenge against the top contenders for the gold medal: The Argentinian “Leonas”, who are seven-time Pan American champions and have never missed a chance to reach the final.

In the afternoon session, in the conclusion of the preliminary round, the United States will face Uruguay in Group A, and Chile will play against Cuba in Group B. This will determine the four semifinalists who will compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals, a direct ticket to the next Olympic Games, and three spots in the pre-Olympic qualifying tournament.
