Surf: Chilean Rafael Cortéz in the longboard final

He will compete for the Pan American gold against the Peruvian Benoit Clemente, the champion in Lima 2019, at around 11:54 a.m. this Monday.

Monday, October 30th.- After the surf competition at the Pan American Games was put on hold over the weekend due to adverse weather conditions at Punta de Lobos Beach, the competition resumed this Monday.

At the early hours, Chilean Rafael Cortez secured his spot in the longboard final after defeating Brazilian Carlos Bahía with a score of 14.26 to 3.10.

This way, the local surfer guaranteed a silver medal for the host country, and around 11:54 this morning, he will compete for the gold medal against the Peruvian Benoit Clemente, the longboard champion at the previous Pan American Games in Lima 2019.

Rafael Cortez, who lives in Pichilemu, the coastal town to which Punta de Lobos Beach belongs, has already faced off against Clemente, in a match that took place on October 25th, during the second heat of the third main round.

That encounter ended in defeat for the local athlete, but he still managed to defeat the American Cole Robbins and the Uruguayan Julian Schweizer in the repechage to advance to the medal fight.
