Argentina grabs the gold in male's tennis by defeating Chile

Tennis player Facundo Díaz Acosta defeated the Chilean Tomás Barrios in straight sets in the final.

Sunday, October 29, 2023.- Argentina secured the gold medal in males tennis with Facundo Díaz (ATP ranked 109) defeating the Chilean Tomás Barrios (ATP ranked 105) in two sets, with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (5), in a match that lasted two hours and 11 minutes.

The match was played in a packed Court Central del Estadio Nacional. The game began to tilt in favor of Díaz Acosta in the fourth game of the first set when he secured the break point and consolidated it with his serve to take a 4-1 lead.

The Argentinian managed to maintain the advantage, although in the ninth game, he saved three break points before closing the first set with a score of 6-3.

In the second set, the Argentinian broke before heading into the break, but in the eighth game, Barrios recovered the break, making the score 4-4.

The conclusion of the set was determined in the tiebreak, where Díaz Acosta came from behind (1-3) to win the match and the gold medal with a score of 7-5.

The male's tennis podium was composed of Argentina with the gold, Chile with the silver, and Brazil with the bronze.

Furthermore, it's worth noting that the two finalists of the men's singles (Díaz Acosta and Barrios) secured their qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
