Sunday, October 29, 2023.- The Chilean male field hockey team advanced to the semifinals of the discipline after defeating Mexico 5-0 and finishing second in Group A with six points, behind Argentina, who completed nine points.
In the first half, Kay Gesswein and Nils Strabucchi scored the first two goals for “Los Diablos,” who enjoyed the loud support of the crowd that filled the Centro Deportivo de Hockey Césped at Estadio Nacional.
In the second half, Juan Amoroso, José Hurtado, and Franco Becerra increased the score for the Chilean team, securing their spot in the top four.
After the match, Chile's captain, Fernando Renz, stated, "The result was very good, a 5-0 that helped us qualify for the semi-finals, which is what we were aiming for."
Looking ahead to the semifinals, where they will face Canada, Renz expressed, "They are an opponent that plays very organized, with a classic style of hockey, and we will analyze them to find their weaknesses and advance to the final."
The match between Chile and Canada for the semifinals will take place on Wednesday, November 1st, at 8:15 p.m. local time.
