Brazil secured the gold medal in female's tennis

The Brazilian Laura Pigossi defeated the Argentinian María Lourdes Carlé in two sets.

Sunday, october 29nd, 2023.- Brazil obtained another gold medal at the 2023 Pan American Games thanks to the victory of Laura Pigossi (WTA ranked 125) over Argentine María Lourdes Carlé (WTA ranked 146) in the female's tennis final. Pigossi won in straight sets with a clear 6-2, 6-3 scoreline.

The match took place on the Court Central del Estadio Nacional, where the Brazilian tennis player took control of the first set and secured two breaks. The first break occurred early in the match, giving her a quick advantage against the Argentine, who fought but couldn't regain ground.

Moreover, in the eighth game, when the Argentine was serving to put pressure on Pigossi, the Brazilian broke her service and closed the first set at 6-2.

In the second set, Pigossi achieved a break in the fourth game and then held her service to take a 4-1 lead, which she maintained until the end of the match, closing the set at 6-3.

With this victory, Brazil claimed the gold, and Argentina secured the silver.

It's worth noting that both Pigossi and Carlé secured their qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics by reaching the finals in Santiago 2023.
