United States Takes Gold in Open Water Swimming

Swimmer Brennan Gravley was the best in the competition, with a time of 1 hour, 50 minutes, 23 seconds, and 4 hundredths. He was followed by the Argentinian Franco Cassini, with two hundredths less.

Sunday, october 29nd, 2023.- American swimmer Brennan Gravley claimed the gold medal in the open water swimming competition this afternoon, held at Laguna Los Morros, located approximately 20 kilometers south of the Chilean capital.

After the first three laps out of a total of eight, American brothers Brennan and Dylan Gravley took the lead in the race with a solid pace. As they completed the 10-kilometer course, they began to distance themselves from the group.

The dynamics changed from the fifth lap. Argentinian swimmer Joaquín Moreno moved to the front of the leading group. However, his lead only lasted as long as it took American Brennan Gravley to regain energy and pace himself for the remainder of the race. By that point, the difference was only one second.

The competition between the American and the Argentinian was intense from the sixth lap. So close that in the seventh lap, Moreno once again took the lead. However, the American reclaimed first place and finished strong in the last stretch of the race, with a total time of 1 hour, 50 minutes, 23.4 seconds.

The silver medal went to Argentinian swimmer Cassini, with a time of 1 hour, 50 minutes, 23.6 seconds, while the bronze was awarded to Mexican swimmer Paulo Strehlke Delgado, who finished with a time of 1 hour, 50 minutes, 23.8 seconds.

The sole representative from Chile in the race was Edhy Vargas, who finished in 19th place with a time of 2 hours, 6 minutes, and 2.5 seconds.
