Sunday, october 29nd, 2023.- With baseball already concluded and Colombia emerging as the gold medal winner, the action in Cerrillos doesn't stop at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. On this Sunday, the female's softball tournament got underway.
Mexico and Canada made their debuts with notable victories. The Mexican team defeated Venezuela 9-2 in a match marking the start of Group A, while the Canadian team achieved a 4-0 win against Cuba in Group B.
Jorge Araujo, the coach of the Mexican squad, remarked after the victory, "We started well, with a home run on the first at-bat to make a difference. The energy of the crowd can change the game, which worried me because Venezuela brought a lot of people. Fortunately, our players responded."
"Our goal is to compete for a medal, to be in the final days contending for that medal, which will be very important for the Mexican program. We need to progress every day and improve in all aspects of the game," Araujo concluded.
Marlén Espinoza, the second baseman for the Mexican team, stated, "This is just the beginning at the Pan American Games. It's the first game, but I see the team in good shape to advance to the super round. Our aim is the medal, hopefully the gold, which is what every athlete seeks."
The day of softball in Cerrillos will conclude with the match between Chile and the United States in Group A, which is set to start at 4:00 PM this Sunday.
