Uruguay Secures Seventh Place in Female's Handball

The South American team triumphed in a hard-fought match against Canada, winning 22-19 at the Polideportivo in Viña del Mar.

Sunday, October 29, 2023.- In the final day of female's handball at the 2023 Pan American Games, Uruguay claimed the seventh spot by defeating Canada 22-19 in Viña del Mar.

The match was highly competitive, and the South American team managed to overturn the partial lead held by the North American side, who went into halftime with an 11-10 advantage.

With just a minute and a half remaining, the Canadians closed the gap and trailed 20-19. However, two quick plays by the Uruguayan team secured their victory.

Camila Bianco, with six goals, and Martina Barreiro, with five, were the top scorers for the winning team. Meanwhile, Emily Routhier stood out for Canada with six goals.

Next, the match for fifth place will be contested between Cuba and Puerto Rico. In the evening of this Sunday, Paraguay and Chile will compete for the bronze, starting at 6:00 p.m., followed by the grand final between Argentina and Brazil.

The conclusion of the female's division immediately transitions to the male's competition, with matches scheduled for Monday, including Cuba vs. Uruguay and Argentina vs. the United States in Group B, and Brazil vs. Mexico and Chile vs. the Dominican Republic in Group A.
