Lauren Stephens wins gold for the United States in female's road cycling

The athlete recorded a time of 2 hours, 51 minutes, and 5 seconds through the streets of Santiago. The podium was completed by Miryam Núñez from Ecuador and Agua Marina Espínola from Paraguay, in a closely contested battle for the silver medal.

Sunday, october 29nd, 2023.- The female's road cycling event took place on Sunday at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, with American cyclist Lauren Stephens securing the gold medal. She completed the 105-kilometer urban circuit through the streets of the Chilean capital.

The North American rider claimed the top spot with a time of 2 hours, 51 minutes, and 5 seconds, maintaining a significant lead over her closest competitors, who fought fiercely for the silver medal.

Ultimately, Ecuadorian Miryam Núñez clocked in at 2 hours, 52 minutes, and 29 seconds, narrowly edging out Paraguayan Agua Marina Espínola for the third position.

Visibly emotional, Núñez stated, "I am happy to achieve this medal. I dedicate it to my family, with whom we have gone through difficult times this year after losing a loved one. I hope this joy reaches their hearts, my family, and my country. Now it's time to enjoy."

This achievement comes at a challenging time for Miryam Núñez, as she lost her grandmother just five days before the time trial event in Santiago 2023.

It's worth noting that the female's road cycling event at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games provides points for the Olympic ranking in preparation for Paris 2024.
