Slalom Canoeing: Gold for the United States and Brazil in C1

American Zachary Lokken and Brazilian Ana Satila secured victory in the first finals held on the Río Aconcagua. Brazil added another silver, while Paraguay stood out with two bronzes.

Sunday, october 29nd, 2023.- American Zachary Lokken and Brazilian Ana Satila clinched the gold medals in the C1 category, corresponding to the slalom canoeing competition that took place on the Río Aconcagua over the weekend.

In the male's event, Lokken triumphed in the final against Brazilian Kaua da Silva, who took the silver, while Paraguayan Leonardo Curcel claimed the bronze. Further behind were the Argentine Sebastián Rossi, the Canadian Alex Baldoni, and the Venezuelan José Silva.

In the female's competition, Brazilian Ana Satila emerged as the winner, followed by the Canadian Lois Betteridge (silver) and the Paraguayan Ana Paula Fernandes (bronze). Missing out on the podium were the Argentine Nerea Castiglione, the American Marcella Altman, and the Chilean Emilia Retamales.

Following this, the K1 finals were contested. In the male's event, the Brazilian Pedro Goncalves secured the top spot, followed by the Chilean Andraz Echeverría, Venezuelan Aexis Pérez, Canadian Mael Rivard, Mexican Antonio Reinoso, and American Joshua Joseph.

In the female's K1 category, American Evy Leibfarth finished first in the semifinals. She was followed by the Brazilian Omira Estacia, the Canadian Lea Baldoni, the Mexican Sofia Reinoso, the Ecuadorian Emilie Armani, and the Peruvian Lenny Ramírez.
