Brazil closer to retaining Pan American gold

The current champions defeated Argentina 77-57 and will face Colombia for the gold in female basketball.

Saturday, October 28.- The female Brazilian basketball team continues to make an impact at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Game. In the semifinals, they defeated Argentina 77-57, earning the right to compete against Colombia for the gold medal. 

In the first quarter, the Brazilian team established an advantage (27-17), which they managed well. Although Argentina won the second quarter (18-15), Brazil maintained the lead in the remaining periods (19-11 and 16-11), securing their spot in the final. 

The top scorers for the winning team were Leila Zabani with 19 points, followed by Licinara Rodriguez (9) and Emanuely De Oliveira (9). 

The Brazilian coach, Joao Camargo, expressed his happiness with the victory but emphasized the need to focus on the upcoming match against Colombia. He acknowledged Colombia as a powerful team, well-trained, and with a defined game plan, making it crucial for Brazil to reduce Colombia's offensive pressure while maintaining their own performance. 

The battle for the bronze medal will take place on Sunday, local time, between Cuba and Argentina at 5:00 p.m, while the gold medal match between Colombia and Brazil will follow at 8:00 p.m. Both games will be held at the Polideportivo 1 at Estadio Nacional. 

In the morning matches, Venezuela defeated Chile 79-70 to secure the fifth place, and Puerto Rico won 75-70 against Mexico, claiming the seventh position.
