Brazil dominates on the first day of judo at Santiago 2023

The South American giant claimed four gold medals on the tatami at Estadio Nacional

Sábado 28 de octubre de 2023.- Brazil has begun to assert its dominance at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, steadily climbing up the medal leaderboard. This time, they had a golden day in the start of the judo competition held at Centro de Deportes de Contacto del Estadio Nacional.

The Brazilian delegation secured their first gold medal on the tatami through Alexia Vilhalba, who claimed victory in the -48kg category against Mexican Edna Carrillo with an ippon.

Next, the South American giant celebrated as Michel Felix climbed to the top of the podium after defeating Colombian Johan Cano in the male's under-60kg category.

Subsequently, Larissa Cincinato earned the gold medal with an ippon against Paulina Martínez in the female's -52kg category.

In the final battle of the day, Rafaela Silva achieved the most coveted prize, the gold medal, as she triumphed with an ippon against Argentina's Brisa Gómez in the -57kg category.

The local team, had a disappointing Saturday at the Ñuñoa venue as their top hope, Mary dee Vargas, couldn't secure a medal. She fell in the bronze medal match against Brazilian Amanda Ferreira. The other Chileans who reached the final rounds, Lucas Fernández and Judith González, also lost in their matches for third place.
