Sábado 28 de octubre, 2023.- Chile secured a spot in the final of the male's tennis thanks to the solid victory achieved by Tomás Barrios (ATP ranking 105th), who defeated Brazilian Thiago Monteiro (119th) with a score of 6-3 and 6-2 at Court Central del Estadio Nacional.
Furthermore, this win earned the Chilean tennis player a qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics, a spot he will need to confirm in the upcoming season by maintaining a ranking position within the top 350 before the main draw of the tournament is determined.
In the first set, the Chilean player came out strong in pursuit of victory, securing a break in the first game of the match. Then, he broke again in the seventh game and served to win the set, but couldn't close it with his serve. However, he didn't let the next break opportunity slip away and clinched the set 6-3 on his second set point.
In the second set, Barrios maintained his good form, breaking in the second and fourth games to quickly take a 4-0 lead. Another break in the sixth game solidified the Chilean's strong advantage. He closed the match with a 6-2 victory on his serve. Olympic medalist Fernando González was present in the stands to witness the match.
In the quest for the gold medal, he will face Argentine Facundo Díaz (109th), who defeated Brazilian Gustavo Heide (202nd) with a score of 4-6, 6-4, and 7-6 (6).
