The United States goes for gold in Eventing Equestrian competition

The North American team closed Saturday as the leader after winning the cross country and is the top contender for the gold medal at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.

Saturday, october 28nd, 2023.- The United States makes room for a new gold medal at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, after winning the cross country in the complete equestrian competition at Quillota, Valparaíso on Saturday.

The North Americans secured the stage on Saturday with a score of 86.2 points, achieved by the team composed of Caroline Pamukcu, Elisabeth Halliday, Sharon White, and Elliott Sydney

This first-place finish adds to their success on Friday in the dressage stage, positioning the United States as the top favorite for the gold.

Brazil takes second place with a score of 101.5, led by Marcio Carvalho, Carlos Parro, Rafael Mamprin, and Ruy Fonseca, while Canada sits in third with 105.2 points, featuring Lindsay Traisnel, Karl Slezak, Michael Winter, and Colleen Loach.

Guillermo Garín, part of the Chilean team, currently in sixth place, stated after the event, “There are teams like the Americans, Brazilians, and Canadians. We need to compete with them, go and compete abroad. Training with what we have here is not enough.”

The local rider added, “We need to keep working. There are more events to come, and hopefully, this support can be maintained over time, and we can keep improving, because there is much to be done.”

On Sunday, October 29th, at 12:00 p.m., the final stage of the complete equestrian competition will take place with the show jumping, adding its score to the cross country and dressage to complete the final podium.

The Santiago 2023 Pan American Games offer a spot for the next Olympic Games in Paris 2024 in the Eventing Equestrian competition.
