With their victory, the Central American team will face Cuba in the match for fifth and sixth place, while the South American team will go up against Canada for the seventh and eighth position.

Saturday, October 28, 2023.- Puerto Rico defeated Uruguay 30-23 in the battle for the secondary positions in female's handball at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. This win will allow them to compete against Cuba for fifth and sixth place.

Earlier, the Cuban team had beaten Canada 26-20, which means Canada will now have to contend with Uruguay for the seventh and eighth positions.

At the Gimnasio Polideportivo de Viña del Mar, Puerto Rico dominated the first half, leading with a clear advantage of 14-8 at halftime. Although the second half was much more balanced, Uruguay couldn't overturn the score.

In the quest for medals, the semifinals will be held this afternoon. Argentina will face Paraguay at 5:30 p.m., while Brazil will play against Chile at 8:00 p.m. The winners will compete for the gold, and the losing teams will contend for the bronze.
