Canoeing determines its qualifiers for the final rounds

At Río Aconcagua, representatives from Brazil and the United States claimed the top spots in various categories, and they will compete for medals on the final day this Sunday.

Saturday, october 28nd, 2023.- In the waters of Río Aconcagua, approximately 100 kilometers from Santiago, the qualifying competitions for canoeing at the 2023 Pan American Games continued today in the K1 and C1 male and female categories.

The course featured downstream gates marked in green and upstream gates marked in red, and athletes had to navigate through them without touching. Any contact with a gatepost resulted in a two-second penalty, and missing a gate incurred a 50-second penalty.

In the C1 male category, American Zachary Lokken took the lead. Along with him, qualifiers included Argentinian Sebastián Rossi, Canadian Alex Baldoni, Brazilian Kaua da Silva, Paraguayan Leonardo Curcel, Mexican Ricardo Fentanes, and Venezuelan José Silva.

In the C1 female category, the following athletes advanced: Brazilian Ana Satila, Canadian Lois Betteridge, Argentinian Nerea Castiglone, American Marcella Altman, Paraguayan Ana Paula Fernandes, and Chilean Emilia Retamales.

In the K1 male category, the qualifiers were Brazilian Pedro Goncalves, followed by Argentinian Lucas Rossi, American Joshua Joseph, Canadian Mael Rivard, Mexican Antonio Reinoso, Chilean Andraz Echeverría, and Venezuelan Alexis Pérez.

Finally, in the K1 female category, those present this Sunday will be American Evy Leibfarth, Brazilian Omira Estacia, Canadian Lea Baldoni, Mexican Sofía Reinoso, Argentinian María Luz Cassini, Ecuadorian Emilie Armani, and Peruvian Lenny Ramírez.
