Saturday, october 28nd, 2023.- Female's field hockey continues its development at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. It started on Saturday with a resounding 11-0 victory for Uruguay over Trinidad and Tobago in the Group A tournament.
The South American team bounced back from a challenging debut against Argentina, where they lost 8-0. This victory also gives them a chance to qualify for the semifinals in the upcoming match against the United States, their last game of this phase.
The goals for Uruguay were scored by Milagros Algorta, Manuela Vilar (a hat-trick), Sol Amadeo (another hat-trick), and Teresa Viana (four goals).
After the win, Amadeo stated, "We managed to impose our game with good connections. We scored from short corners and from plays. We came looking for more goals, but it was still a great result for us."
She also acknowledged, "We knew that the United States had won 16-0, so we needed to increase our goal difference. We wanted to match or surpass that mark. We couldn't do it, so we have no choice but to go out and win against the United States."
Regarding the upcoming match against the North Americans on Monday, she said, "We know it will be a tough game. Today, we'll start analyzing them thoroughly. Uruguay has what it takes to win. We can only focus on winning, and when we're in those moments, we can shine."
The second match on Saturday at the Centro Deportivo de Hockey Césped, located at the Parque Deportivo Estadio Nacional, will be played at 11:30 a.m. local time between the United States and Argentina, two of the favorites for medals in female's field hockey at Santiago 2023.
