Friday, october 27nd, 2023.- Mexico achieved an important victory in Group A of field hockey by beating Peru 6-1, earning their first three points in the group.
The match was evenly contested in the beginning, with Mexico holding a narrow 2-1 lead at halftime. However, in the second half, with better physical condition and gameplay, the Mexicans managed to establish a comfortable lead to win the match 6-1.
The goals for the winners were scored by Jorge Estrada, Pablo Muñoz, Luis Villegas, Juan Sosa, and a brace by Miguel León.
After the match, Mexico's top scorer said, 'It was a challenging game to continue with our goal of reaching the semifinals. We had the pressure to score goals in the fourth quarter, they equalized, but then we managed to impose our game.'
Mexico's next match will be against Chile's 'Diablos,' scheduled for Sunday, October 29th at 7:30 p.m. local time.
'Chile is a very strong team, ranked above us. We've always faced them in quarterfinals where they've beaten us. We want to give our best effort; we've studied them and want to present our best version,' Miguel León said regarding the upcoming Sunday match.
