Colombia, Canada fly at Velódromo de Peñalolén

The female sprinters secured a gold medal for the South American nation in cycling at Santiago 2023. Meanwhile, the North American athletes were the best in the male’'s pursuit event.

Friday, october 27nd, 2023.- A day of decisive moments in track cycling at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, where Colombia and Canada secured the first gold medals of the evening on Friday.

In the first final of the evening at Velódromo de Peñalolén, the good news was for Colombia. Martha Bayona claimed the gold medal due to the disqualification of Mexican cyclist Yuli Verdugo, who settled for the silver after the judges determined that she had obstructed her opponent. The bronze medal went to the American cyclist Mandy Marquardt, who defeated Brazil's Carolina Barbosa.

Next, it was the turn for the male's pursuit event, with Canada taking the top spot on the podium. Canadian cyclists William Mattern, David Parrish, Michael Foley, and Sean Richardson defeated the Colombian team consisting of Brayan Sánchez, Jordan Parra, Juan Arango, and Nelson Soto with a time of 3:53.593 against 4:02.310.

In the same discipline, the bronze medal was awarded to the United States, represented by Brendan Rhim, Colby Lange, David Domonoske, and Grant Koontz. They defeated the Mexican team, composed by Edibaldo Maldonado, Sebastián Ruiz, Tomás Aguirre, and Ulises Castillo.

The Friday session will conclude with the finals of the male's Keirin and Madison events.
