Friday, october 27nd, 2023.- Mexico concluded their brilliant performance in modern pentathlon at the Pan American Games with another gold medal, winning the male's relay event and finishing their participation in this sport with seven medals, five of them being gold.
The competition held at the Military School was highly contested, and it was only in the final event (laser run) that the duo of Emiliano Hernández and Duilio Carrillo secured the victory, accumulating 611 points to finish with a total of 1,413 points.
"We are very happy. The beginning was a bit shaky since it was the last chance for Mexico to win a medal, and we felt some pressure. But in the end, we succeeded. Now, we will plan our strategy better to perform well in Paris 2024," Carrillo remarked.
The silver medal went to the United States team of Tristen Bell and Brendan Anderson, who scored 1,397 points, while the bronze medal was claimed by the Ecuadorian pair of Bayardo Naranjo and Andrés Torres, with 1,396 points.
The Chilean duo of Esteban Bustos and Martín Gajardo, who had briefly held second place before the final event, finished in fourth place with 1,368 points.
With this victory, Mexico dominated in each of the five events in the modern pentathlon program at Santiago 2023 (male’s and female's relays, mixed relay, as well as individual competitions for male and female), and also secured silver medals in the individual events. It was truly a spectacular performance.
