Shooting defines gold medals at Santiago 2023 and spots for Paris 2024

In the final of male's trap shooting, Jean Pierre Brol (independent athlete) and Leonel Martínez (Venezuela) took home the gold and silver, respectively, securing their spots at the upcoming Olympic Games. On the closing day of the discipline, Mexico also celebrated with double victories.

Friday, october 27nd, 2023.- During the Friday afternoon session at Santiago 2023, shooting crowned its top performers in the disciplines of male’s trap and mixed air pistol, and also determined the direct quotas granted by the sport for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

At the Polígono de Tiro de Pudahuel, the male's trap awarded the gold medal to the independent shooter Jean Pierre Brol (Guatemala) with a score of 43 shots, while the silver medal went to Venezuela's Leonel Martínez (42). Both athletes secured their spots at the upcoming Olympic Games.

The third place was earned by independent competitor Hebert Brol, the brother of the new Pan American champion.

In the mixed air pistol competition, the Mexican duo of Andrea Ibarra and Carlos González clinched the Pan American gold. The silver medal was won by their compatriots Alejandra Zavala and Daniel Urquiza, and the bronze went to the Americans Lisa Emmert and Nickolaus Mowrer.

Furthermore, the two top pairs also earned their spots in the Olympics for the coming year.

The afternoon's winners joined Mexican shooter Carlos Quezada, who was the best in the male’s 3x20 rifle event in the morning at the Pan American Games. His performance in the final round averaged a score of 452.1, surpassing Americans Timothy Sherry (449.5) and Lucas Kozeniesky (438.8), thus securing his presence in Paris 2024.
