Chile finishes 8th in female's beach volleyball, Vorpahl-Rivas duo splits

The Chilean pair lost to Puerto Rico, after which Chris Vorpahl announced that she would no longer play with María Francisca Rivas. In the battle for fifth and sixth place, Brazil defeated Peru. Meanwhile, in the males's division, both final matches were not played.

Friday, October 27, 2023.- The Chilean beach volleyball duo of María Francisca Rivas and Chris Vorpahl finishes in the eighth position at the Pan American Games. Following this, Vorpahl announces the separation of the partnership that had been playing together for three years.

In the match for seventh and eighth place, the local pair lost to the Puerto Rican team of María Claudia González and Allanis Navas, with a score of 21-19, 18-21, and 15-9.

After the game, Chris Vorpahl says, "Paulao (the coach) knows that when I took on this challenge, it was until Santiago 2023, and then we would see. In that sense, I am very at peace because I was always clear and very transparent. Thinking about Olympic qualification today was difficult because we came with a lot of questioning, a lot of wear and tear. We've had three great years playing together, and I sincerely want to thank María Francisca for that. It wasn't our year, and we didn't come to this tournament as a duo the way we wanted."

In the match for fifth and sixth place, the Mexican duo of Atenas Gutiérrez and Abril Flores defeated the Peruvian pair of Claudia Gaona and Lisbeth Allcca with scores of 21-9 and 21-18.

In the male's division, the matches for seventh and eighth place, as well as the match for fifth and sixth place, were not played due to the withdrawal of one of the pairs citing physical reasons.

In the male's division, for the seventh place, the Argentine pair of José Tomás and Nicolás Capogrosso did not appear against the Ecuadorian duo of Dany León and Marcos Tenorio, while for the fifth place, the Mexican pair of Miguel Sarabia and Juan Ramón Virgen, who were facing the Canadian duo of Jake-Raymond MacNei and Alexander Russell, also withdrew. In each of these withdrawals, one of the pairs cited physical reasons for their decision.
