Shooting: Carlos Quezada wins the male's 3x20 rifle and qualifies for Paris 2024

The North American athlete was the best at the Polígono de Pudahuel and will be at the upcoming Olympic Games.

Friday, October 27, 2023.- Double and great joy is what Mexican shooter Carlos Quezada celebrates this Friday. He was the best in the male's 3x20 rifle event at the Pan American Games, and thanks to his outstanding performance, he secured his qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The first event of the day for the North American was the qualification round, where he surprisingly finished in fourth place with a score of 580. Americans Timothy Sherry, Lucas Kozeniesky, and the Brazilian Cassio De Mello surpassed him.

However, the tables turned in the final round. During the eight series, Quezada showed consistency, averaging a score of 452.1, taking a lead of nearly three points over American Sherry (449.5), who won the silver medal.

The third place went to Kozeniesky, who fell somewhat behind in third place with his score of 438.8 points, nearly 14 units less than the Mexican shooter.

With Quezada's achievement, Mexico now has 33 gold medals at the Santiago Pan American Games. In total, athletes from the North American country have collected 75 medals, including 17 silver and 25 bronze. They are in second place in the medal tally, just behind the United States.
