Female's Basketball: Brazil assumes its Pan American favoritism

Erika de Souza, the top scorer in the victory over Colombia, knows they must confirm this status on the court.

Friday, october 27nd, 2023.- Brazil and Colombia determined the winner of Group B in female's Pan American basketball on Friday. The first team prevailed with a convincing 78-57 victory at the Polideportivo 1 at the Estadio Nacional, concluding a perfect campaign after previously defeating Mexico (72-54) and Venezuela (94-47).

Meanwhile, Colombia entered the game against the Brazilians with wins over Venezuela (73-57) and Mexico (66-54).

Brazil's pivot, Erika de Souza, who was the top scorer for her team with 14 points against the Colombians, said, "We knew this third game would be very tough and difficult because
Colombia also came with two victories."

"We stayed very focused, and thankfully, we managed to maintain our level and concentration to win. Now we have to wait for our semifinal opponent, and even though we are considered favorites on paper to win the gold, we must prove it on the court. The good thing is that we are doing very well so far," she added.

On the other side, Colombian point guard Manuela Ríos, who was the top scorer for her team with 16 points in this third game, said, "I think we had a good game until the third quarter, but in the last quarter, we lost focus, and that's why they gained a significant lead."

"Now we have to focus on the semifinal. We have taken it step by step after achieving the first goal, which was reaching the semifinals. We need to prepare for that game, hopefully win it, and probably advance to the final against Brazil, who are the favorites," she concluded.
