Canoeing: Canada and Brazil dominate on the first day of qualifications

Canadian Alex Baldoni and Brazilian Ana Satila finished at the top of the kayak K1 time trial qualification tests, held at the Río Aconcagua.

Friday, october 27nd, 2023.- In the turbulent waters of the Río Aconcagua, near the town of San Esteban (approximately 100 kilometers from Santiago), the canoeing competitions at the Pan American Games began today.

The first event in action was the kayak cross K1 time trial, with the qualifying round for Sunday's finals.

In the male's competition, the first place went to Alex Baldoni from Canada with a time of 39.74 seconds, followed by Guillherme Mapelli from Brazil (50.70), Kyler Long from the United States (50.90), Mael Rivard from Canada (51.46), Lilian Ivelic from Chile (51.51), Pedro Gonzalves from Brazil (51.52), Andraz Echeverría from Chile (51.79), Matías Contreras from Argentina (52.00), Kaua da Silva from Brazil (52.67), Alexis Pérez from Venezuela (53.70), Joshua Joseph from the United States (53.75), Antonio Reinoso from Mexico (54.70), Eriberto Gutiérrez from Peru (58.55), Fernando Reinoso from Mexico (61.61), and John Rodríguez from Peru (64.59).

In the female's competition, Ana Satila from Brazil came in first with a time of 52.65 seconds, followed by Evy Libfarth from the United States (52.75), Lois Betteridge from Canada (54.02), Lea Baldoni from Canada (55.51), Omira Estacia from Brazil (56.00), Luz María Cassini from Argentina (56.10), Florence Maheu from Canada (56.11), and Beatriz da Motta from Brazil (58.17).
