Brazil rebounds in male's hockey after defeating Trinidad and Tobago

The South American team secured a 2-1 victory against the Trinidadians in Group B at Santiago 2023. With this win, their medal aspirations remain alive.

Friday, october 27nd, 2023.- Field hockey continues its progress at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, and Friday's session began with Brazil narrowly defeating Trinidad and Tobago 2-1 in the Group B of the tournament.

The South American team bounced back from their challenging debut against Canada, achieving their first victory. This win positions them to approach their last group stage match with the opportunity to compete for a medal.

The goals for Brazil were scored by Stephane Smith and Andre Patrocinio, while Trinidad and Tobago's lone goal was netted by Mickell Pierre. If the Brazilian team can defeat the United States this Sunday, they will have a chance to contend for a medal. Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago must secure a victory against Canada and await results from other matches to advance to the semifinals.

Brazil's Patrocinio, who also serves as the team's captain, commented after the victory, "This was a crucial match for us against a strong opponent. We had a strong start in the first quarter, and the game tightened afterward. Although we couldn't score as many goals, the victory was what we needed. Up next is the United States, another formidable rival, so we need to prepare well. Our objective is to take it one game at a time, which is the best approach to advance to the semifinals and compete for a medal."

The second match on Friday at the Centro Deportivo de Hockey Césped, located at the Parque Deportivo Estadio Nacional, is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. local time, featuring the United States and Canada, both considered favorites for a medal in male's field hockey at Santiago 2023.
