Tennis: Chile eliminates Colombia, advances to semi-finals in male's doubles

The Chilean duo composed of Alejandro Tabilo and Tomás Barrios defeated the Colombians Nicolás Barrientos and Nicolás Mejía in two sets

Thursday, october 26, 2023.- Chile will seek to add a new medal in the ongoing Santiago 2023 Pan American Games as they advanced to the semifinals of male's doubles tennis after defeating Colombia.

The Chilean duo composed of Alejandro Tabilo (ranked 848th in ATP doubles) and Tomás Barrios (ranked 701st) won by scores of 7-6 (1) and 6-0 against the Colombians Nicolás Barrientos (ranked 65th) and Nicolás Mejía (ranked 522nd) at the Court Central at the Estadio Nacional

The first set was closely contested and was decided in a tiebreak, which the Chilean pair won convincingly by 7-1.

In the second set, the Chilean duo dominated their opponents, breaking their serve three times to close out the match with a resounding 6-0 victory.

After the match, Tabilo expressed his happiness, saying, "We're in the semis, and we're going to fight for a medal with Tomás, who is playing incredibly."

"It was a bit challenging at the beginning, as both of us were coming from two long matches, but then we managed to connect, become more solid, and overcome our rivals," Tabilo added.

In their pursuit of reaching the final, which would enable them to compete for the gold medal, the Chilean pair will face the Costa Rican duo consisting of Rodrigo Crespo (ranked 1866th) and Jesse Flores (ranked 756th).
