Jueves 26 de octubre, 2023.- Chile's female's handball team delivered an impressive comeback to secure a spot in the semifinals at Santiago 2023. They defeated Puerto Rico with a score of 23-15 in a match that began with Puerto Rico in the lead. The game took place at Gimnasio Polideportivo de Viña del Mar.
At halftime, the Puerto Rican team held a 12-9 advantage. However, in the second half, they couldn't withstand the onslaught of the local team. Chile adjusted their defense and unleashed their offense, allowing only three goals while scoring 14.
Standout performances in the Chilean team came from Gabriel Muller, Valeska Lovera, and Valeria Carrasco, each contributing four goals.
Chile will face Brazil, the current Pan American champions, in the semifinals on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. Brazil won all of their Group B matches, including a dominant 49-11 victory over Cuba.
In the other semifinal match, Argentina will compete against Paraguay, taking place on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The Argentine team also finished the group stage undefeated, with a substantial 31-10 victory over Canada.
As the leaders of Group A, Argentina secured victories against Puerto Rico (46-17) and Chile (28-15). They are now in a position to surpass their performance at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, where they won silver after losing in the final to Brazil.
Paraguay advanced to the top four despite a narrow loss to Uruguay (23-22), allowing them to claim the second spot in Group B.
It's worth noting that this discipline offers direct qualification spots for Paris 2024.
