Chile can’t defend Pan American gold as they fall to powerful Brazil

The Grimalt cousins were defeated in two sets. However, the Chilean team still has a chance to compete for the bronze medal.

Thursday, october 26, 2023.- Chile left the male’s beach volleyball gold medal vacant as cousins Marco and Esteban Grimalt lost 2-0 to the Brazilian duo André Loyola and George Souto.

The Chilean team was defending the gold medal they had won in Lima 2019, but despite the support from the crowd at Parque Peñalolén, they couldn't reach the final.

Brazil, on the other hand, advanced to the final with a score of 21-13 and 21-17 and will compete for the gold medal against Cuba, who defeated the United States 2-0 with scores of 21-15 and 21-13.

The Grimalt cousins will now compete for the bronze medal, facing the United States on Friday, October 27 at 5:00 p.m. local time.

The male’s beach volleyball final will take place at 7:00 p.m.local time at Centro de Vóleibol Playa de Peñalolén.
