Mexico wins gold in female's Omnium, and Chile surprises with bronze

Mexican cyclist Yareli Acevedo claimed the top spot in the combined track cycling event. The silver medal went to Colombia's Lina Hernández, and the third place was secured by Chile's Catalina Soto.

Thursday, october 26nd, 2023.- One of the combined track cycling events is the Omnium, and in the women's category, there was a close final at the Peñalolén Velodrome in the 2023 Pan American Games.

In the 7.5-kilometer Scratch race, Trinidadian cyclist Alexi Costa emerged as the winner, ahead of Joseph Amber from Barbados and Collen Gulick from the United States, who dominated the event.

Next up was the Tempo race, where Chile's Catalina Soto secured the first place with 27 points, surpassing Lina Hernández from Colombia (10) and Verónica Abreu from Venezuela (4).

Following that, the Elimination race was held, with Mexican cyclist Yareli Acevedo taking the lead, placing the Colombian Lina Hernández in second and Soto in third.

In the final event, the Points race, Mexican Acevedo built a lead and secured the victory for her country with a total of 128 points. Colombian Lina Hernández won the silver with 121 points, and the bronze went to the local rider, Catalina Soto, with 120 points.
