The Mexican delegation already has four gold medals in the discipline, as this Thursday, they excelled in the female relays.

Thursday, october 26nd, 2023.- In the facilities of Escuela Militar, located in Las Condes, the modern pentathlon is taking place. This discipline combines skills in fencing, swimming, equestrian, and laser-run. And this Thursday, it awarded medals in the female relay category.

The champions were the Mexican duo composed of the sisters Catherine and Mayan Oliver, who excelled in three out of the four events (only missing in the swimming) to accumulate a total of 1,283 points.

The biggest surprise addition to the podium was the Independent Athletes Team, with Guatemalan athletes Paula Valencia and Sophia Hernández securing the silver (1,219 points). The bronze went to Canadians Kelly Fitzsimmons and Devan Wiebe (1,155).

Modern pentathlon has been completely dominated by Mexico, who claimed gold medals in both female and male individual events, as well as in the mixed relay and female relay.

This sport will come to an end this Friday with the male relays, where once again, the North Americans appear as the favorites.

The modern pentathlon at Santiago 2023 provided direct qualifying spots for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which were achieved by the Mexicans Emiliano Hernández and Mayan Oliver in the male and female categories, respectively.
