Alejandra Zavala repeats gold in pistol shooting, adds another medal to Mexico

The athlete, who had already won the 25-meter pistol event on Tuesday, secured the gold medal in the ten-meter discipline this morning, marking her second personal gold medal at these Games.

Zavala scored 234.1 points, surpassing the 231.5 points of American Alexis Lagan and the 213.0 points of Ecuadorian Diana Durango. It's worth mentioning that the Mexican, already qualified for Paris 2024, ceded her spot to Lagan.

It's worth noting that this was Mexico's third gold in shooting at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, totaling six medals. The leading country in this discipline is the United States, with five gold medals and a total of 14 medals.

In the males's category, the gold medal with a score of 240.5 went to Canadian Tugrul Ozer, who also set a new Pan American record and secured a spot for the Parisian event. The podium was completed by American James Hall and Brazilian Felipe Almeida Wu.

In the last final of the day, Guatemalan athletes Adriana Ruano and Ana Soto, representing the Independent Athletes Team, claimed the gold and silver, respectively, in female's trap shooting. Ruano led with a score of 38, while Soto recorded a 36. Meanwhile, American Rachel Tozier won the bronze with a score of 28.

Adriana Ruano, like the other athletes who won gold on this shooting day, earned tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
