Male’s tennis: Chilean Tomás Barrios struggles to secure victory

The local player defeated Jamaican Blaise Bicknell with a score of 6-3, 6-7 (2), and 6-2, and he has now advanced to the quarter-finals.

Thursday, october 26nd, 2023.- Chilean tennis player Tomás Barrios, ranked 115th in the ATP, exerted more effort than perhaps he had expected to defeat Jamaican Blaise Bicknell (world ranking 466th) on the clay of the Court Central del Estadio Nacional.

The local player advanced to the quarter-finals of Santiago 2023 with a hard-fought victory of 6-3, 6-7 (2), and 6-2 after two hours and 46 minutes of play under a scorching sun.

In his debut at the Games, Tomás Barrios also faced a tough challenge to triumph over Barbadian Darian King (world ranking 475th) with a score of 4-6, 6-3, and 7-5.

It's worth noting that the Chilean, who is the second seed at the Pan American Games, won the silver medal in Lima 2019.

"The match was tough and very hard-fought, but I'm happy to have won. I went through some difficult moments, and the support of the crowd was vital. I was a bit nervous in the second set, and I'm glad to be in the quarter-finals now," said Tomás Barrios.
