Bolivia beats Canada and retains gold in male’s racquetball

The South Americans prevailed 2-0 in the team competition and repeated the title from Lima 2019. Conrrado Moscoso and Carlos Keller had already earned gold and silver, respectively, in the singles in Santiago.

Thursday, october 26nd, 2023.- Bolivia confirmed its favoritism, revalidating the gold medal from Lima 2019 with a 2-0 victory over Canada in the team competition.

At the Centro Deportivo de las Raquetas at the Estadio Nacional, Bolivia had Conrrado Moscoso and Carlos Keller as their singles players. In the individual events, they had both achieved gold and silver, respectively, which is why they entered the court as clear favorites and lived up to the expectations, although, in one case, with more difficulties than expected.

This was the case in the first match, where Keller had to come from behind twice in a set to beat Coby Iwaase 3-2, with scores of 7-11, 11-5, 7-11, 11-7, and 13-11.

The intensity and speed of the Canadian player were a constant challenge for the Bolivian, who, in the third set, showed signs of tournament fatigue and even had to be assisted by medical personnel.

That break gave him some breathing room, but still, after winning the fourth set, Keller had to fight until the last point to secure victory in the fifth set.

Then it was Moscoso's turn, who went on to close the series against the Canadian Samuel Murray. He did it much more comfortably in three sets, with scores of 11-5, 11-9, and 11-2.

With a 2-0 advantage, there was no need for the doubles match, and Bolivian racquetball bids farewell to Santiago 2023 with two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze, the latter achieved by Moscoso and Angélica Barrios in mixed doubles.
