Chile defeats Colombia and achieves a historic fifth place in female volleyball

With a stellar performance and the support of the crowd at the Arena Parque O'Higgins, the “Guerreras Rojas” swept Colombia in straight sets, securing the fifth position, marking their best-ever Pan American performance.

Thursday, october 26, 2023.- It couldn't have been any different. 12,000 enthusiastic fans cheered fervently for the Chilean female’s volleyball team at Pista Central at the Arena Parque O'Higgins after defeating Colombia in the battle for fifth place at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. This marks the best performance in the history of the “Guerreras Rojas” in such a tournament.

The national team wraps up its campaign with a record of three wins (two against Colombia and one against Cuba) and three losses (to the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Argentina), making it a very positive outcome for Eduardo Guillaume's squad.

Once again, the atmosphere was charged with the home team empowered by the support of the crowd, resulting in a hard-fought victory in straight sets: 25-21, 25-20, and 25-17 in an hour and 23 minutes. Beatriz Novoa confirmed herself as one of the standout players of the tournament with a personal haul of twenty points, while Elisa Sandrock contributed with five blocks to lead the defense.

The late afternoon will witness the final medal presentations in female volleyball at Santiago 2023. At 5:00 p.m., Argentina and Mexico will compete for the bronze medal, while Brazil and the Dominican Republic will compete for gold, starting at 8:00 p.m. local time.
