Daniela Colilef set a new speed record for Chile in track cycling

The national sprinter advanced to the quarter-finals of the 200m event at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games and was among the standouts in the morning session at the Velódromo at Parque Peñalolén.

Thursday, october 26nd, 2023.- The sprinter Daniela Colilef, who had already stood out with her fourth place in the keirin, advanced to the quarter-finals of the female's sprint through the disqualification of her opponent, Canadian Sarah Orban, who was penalized for leaving her lane in the final stretch. However, the North American still qualified through her second attempt in the repechage.

Colilef had broken the Chilean record for the 200m distance in the qualifications, surpassing the mark she had set herself eight years ago. "I have been working hard to surpass my goals," explained the rider after completing the distance in 11,349 seconds.

The other good news came in the Omnium with Catalina Soto, who finished fifth in the scratch race and first in the tempo race, leading from start to finish. She accumulated 27 points.

This way, the rider emerges as one of the candidates to win a medal in the two events in the afternoon session. The Points Race will determine the medals in the specialty.
