Thursday, october 26nd, 2023.- Nicholas Lee Paul doesn't disappoint in the sprint discipline and secured a spot in the track cycling final the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games with a spectacular sprint at 73 km/h. The Trinidadian, also the world record holder for 200m with 9.1 seconds in 2019, moved on to the gold medal round after defeating Colombian Kevin Quintero without any flaws.
Paul has been flirting with his record speed. In the qualifying round, he clocked in at 9,574 seconds, setting a new Pan American record.
But the gold will require one final push from the Caribbean rider, as he'll be facing Canadian Nick Wammes, who managed to fend off Surinamese Jair Tjon En Fa and advanced to the final with one second over Nicholas Lee Paul. The North American rider secured the second-best time at Parque Peñalolén, with a speed of 74 km/h in the qualifications.
The sprint final in track cycling is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. this Thursday.
