Thursday, october 26nd, 2023.- Boxing at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games entered its decisive phase at the Centro de Entrenamiento Olímpico, and on this Thursday, the finalists in the female's 54kg category were determined.
Unfortunately for Chilean fans, Denisse Bravo fell in the round of the top four against the Brazilian Tatiana De Jesus in a fight that the judges scored 4-1 in favor of the latter.
Despite this defeat, the local athlete secured the only medal for Chile in Pan American boxing, thanks to her reaching the semifinals in her category.
Furthermore, this marks Chile's first medal in female's boxing at Pan American Games, a feat that hadn't been accomplished in the discipline since Toronto 2015.
"I'm happy to have secured a medal for Chile and to have stepped onto the podium. I feel a sense of sadness for not being able to qualify for Paris, as I gave my all in every fight. I want to continue making history, and for that, Chilean boxing needs more support," stated Denisse Bravo.
The defeated athlete added, "I would like to continue in the Olympic cycle because it's where I've excelled in my career. Perhaps in the future, I can make my professional debut."
With this result, the grand final in the female's 54kg category at Santiago 2023 will be contested between the Brazilian Tatiana De Jesus and the Colombian Yeni Arias, who defeated the Venezuelan Johana Gomez in the first fight of the day.
