The Argentinian “Leonas” defeat Uruguay and start roaring for their eighth gold

The seven-time Pan American champions had no issues in their debut in Group A of the preliminary phase of Santiago 2023.

Thursday, October 26.- With the starring performance of the best player from the last World Cup in Amsterdam and Tarrasa, María José Granatto, and the top scorer of that tournament, Agustina Gorzelany, the Argentinian national team made their debut with a resounding victory over Uruguay in the preliminary phase of female's field hockey at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.

The seven-time Pan American champions made their debut at the Centro Deportivo de Hockey Césped at Parque Estadio Nacional in front of around five hundred fans, especially children and young people who came to watch the world runners-up and were not disappointed.

The resistance of the Uruguayan team lasted for ten minutes, only until Gorzelany opened the scoring, allowing the “Leonas” to take control of the match and increase the score at a cruising pace.

In the end, Gorzegol scored two goals and joined the brace of Granatto and Julieta Jankunas, along with the goals by Eugenia Trinchinetti and Delfina Thome, resulting in a commanding 8-0 on the scoreboard.

In the next match, this Saturday, the 28th, Argentina will face the United States, while Uruguay will play against Trinidad and Tobago.
