Chile get off to strong start in field hockey

The local team won 15-0 against Peru in their debut at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago.

Miércoles 25 de octubre.- Chile had a promising debut at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, defeating Peru 15-0 in a match in Group A, which took place at a packed Centro Deportivo de Hockey Césped.

With the enthusiastic and unwavering support of the crowd, the Chilean team dominated the game from the beginning, and goals from Juan Amoroso (2), Andrés Pizarro (2), Felipe Renz (2), Fernando Renz (2), Axel Troncoso, Axel Richter, José Hurtado, José Maldonado, Raimundo Valenzuela, Sebastián Wolansky, and Franco Becerra secured their first victory.

"It was a good game with a significant result, but there are always little details to improve. Now, Argentina is up next, a strong rival with whom we've played recently, both in the Copa America and the World Cup. We'll analyze them well, watch plenty of videos to face them in the best possible way," commented captain Fernando Renz.

Regarding their goals for Santiago 2023, Renz said, "One always dreams of the gold, I can't lie to you, but if we want to reach that final, we have to take it step by step. First, it was Peru, and now Argentina is next. We have to keep progressing to achieve the goal."

Finally, the Chilean captain mentioned the support from the fans: "The Chilean fan base is truly impressive, with everyone cheering and supporting from the first minute. Family, friends, everyone is backing us; it's a real pleasure, and I hope they continue like this," he stated.

Chile's next match will be against Argentina (Friday, 27th, at 8:30 p.m. local time). Field hockey at Santiago 2023 is one of the disciplines that offers a quota for the 2024 Paris Olympics, both in the female's and male's categories.
