Argentina defeats Chile in female's handball

The Argentinian team, which won 28-15, came to secure a spot in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Wednesday, October 25, 2023.- The Argentine women's handball team defeated their Chilean counterpart 28-15 in a match valid for Group A of this Pan American discipline, held at the Gimnasio Polideportivo de Viña Del Mar, a coastal city located 120 kilometers west of Santiago.

The team from Argentina established an early lead on the scoreboard, reaching a 16-9 advantage before halftime.

The second half was not much different. Six minutes in, the Chilean team managed to reduce the gap, but by that point, the Argentinian team had already extended their lead by another two points.

The local team enjoyed the unwavering support of the audience, but it was not enough to reverse their fate. Ultimately, they fell to an indisputable result that leaves the winners in a very favorable position in this discipline, which offers direct qualifying spots for Paris 2024.

The top scorer for the victors was Elke Josselinne Karsten, with seven points and an 88 percent effectiveness rate (seven goals/eight shots), while among the Chilean players, Valeska Lovera stood out with five goals and a 63 percent effectiveness rate (5/8).

A special mention goes to the goal scored from nearly 40 meters by Argentina's goalkeeper, Fátima Rosález. She recovered the ball at the 26th minute after a failed charge by the local team and took a shot at the goal, taking advantage of the fact that the Chilean goalkeeper was focused on the attack.

This long-distance goal only confirmed the dominance of the argentinian team in this match.

Argentina will face Canada on Thursday at 5:30 p.m, while Chile will play against Puerto Rico on the same day at 8:00 p.m. Both matches will take place at the Gimnasio Polideportivo de Viña del Mar.
