Wednesday, October 25, 2023.- Maggie Mac Neil solidified herself as the star of the swimming pool at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, as she secured the gold in the 4x100 medley relay alongside the Canadian team.
It was her fifth victory in this continental event. In addition to the one achieved on this day, the 23-year-old athlete, born in the Chinese city of Jiujiang, also claimed four other gold medals in the 100-meter butterfly, 100-meter freestyle, 4x100 freestyle, and 50-meter freestyle.
Furthermore, she earned silver in the mixed 4x100 medley relay and bronze in the mixed 4x100 freestyle relay.
The Canadian quartet clinched victory with a time of 3:58.76, narrowly edging out the United States (3:59.39). The bronze went to Mexico with a time of 4:04.73.
In the male's competition of the same discipline, the gold went to the United States (3:33.29), silver to Brazil (3:35.12), and bronze to Canada (3:35.12).
This marks the conclusion of the swimming events at Santiago 2023. The United States topped the specific medal table with a total of 46 medals (19 gold, 17 silver, and 10 bronze), followed by Canada with 25 medals (11, 6, and 8) and Brazil with 25 medals (7, 7, and 11).
Among these three countries, they claimed all the victories in the Pan American pool. None of the other medalists (Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina, Chile, and the Bahamas) reached the top of the podium.
