Canada takes gold in female’s team pursuit in cycling

The North American team defeated Mexico in the final, while Colombia took home the bronze.

Wednesday, October 25, 2023.- One of the most thrilling finals in track cycling is the team pursuit, which had the battle for medals in the women's category on Wednesday.

The four teams aiming to reach the top of the podium were Canada, Mexico, Colombia, and the United States, who fought pedal to pedal at Velódromo de Peñalolén.

Ultimately, the Canadian team secured the gold in the competition after Devaney Collier and Fiona Majendie defeated the Mexican duo of Lizbeth Salazar and María Antonieta Gaxiola.

The Canadian team, also composed of Kiara Lylyk and Catherine West, won by a seven-second margin, with a time of 4:23.000 compared to Mexico's 4:30.000.

After the victory, Lylyk said, "It's my first year as an elite, and being able to race with these girls is the best. They called me at the last minute, and I'm very proud of this team.”

The bronze medal went to the Colombian team, composed of Andrea Alzate, Juliana Londoño, Lina Rojas, and Luna Hernández, who defeated the American team of Chloe Patrick, Colleen Gulick, Olivia Cummins, and Shayna Powless.
