Wednesday, October 25, 2023.- Mexico and Argentina, in the female's category, just like in Lima 2019, will compete in the female’s racquetball team final at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
In less than 24 hours, the Argentine team took revenge for their painful loss in the women's doubles event against the Team of Independent Athletes, defeating them with a solid 2-0 score. María José Vargas won 3-0 against María René Rodríguez, and in the doubles, Vargas, along with Natalia Méndez, defeated María René Rodríguez and Gabriela Martínez with a score of 3-0.
"I've been trying to change the color of my medal for three Pan American Games. Let's see if now, with Natalia, we can get the gold one. We both have the same ambition. I want to thank her for giving her all on the court; she played spectacularly. And now we'll go all out to achieve our goal," said the Argentine María José Vargas.
Meanwhile, the Mexican team eliminated the United States with a 2-0 victory. Monserrat Mejía won without any issues (3-0) in the series opener against Michelle Key. Then, in a hard-fought doubles match, Mejía and Alexandra Herrera secured their place in the final (3-1) against Erika Manilla and Key.
"We're very happy to reach the final with my teammates. We are a very strong team, and we're going all out for the final. And once again, we'll be facing Argentina. In the previous final, I didn't get to compete, but I was part of the team," Herrera noted about the historic achievement of reaching the gold medal team event for the fourth consecutive time.
The women's racquetball team final is scheduled for Thursday at 1:15 p.m. local time at the Racquet Center of the National Stadium.
