Guilherme Costa fulfills his mission: wins fourth gold medal in swimming

The Brazilian promised himself to achieve that exact number of victories at Santiago 2023. He accomplished it with his win in the 1,500 meters.

Wednesday, October 25, 2023.- On Tuesday, after winning the 4x200 free relay with his teammates, Guilherme Costa said that his goal at these Pan American Games was to return home with four gold medals.

However, he acknowledged that after three victories, fulfilling his mission was "very difficult as I'm a little tired."

On the last day of pool events this Wednesay, at the Centro Acuático del Estadio Nacional, that exhaustion was not apparent at all.

The Brazilian achieved his self-imposed goal and won his fourth gold medal at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, after winning the 1,500 meters.

The standout swimmer from the giant South American nation recorded a time of 15:09.29 and received an ovation from all spectators, who applauded the 23-year-old's performance.

Costa had already celebrated gold in the 400 meters freestyle, 4x200 free relay, and 800 meters.

In the 1,500 meters, the podium was completed by the American John Gallant (15:12.94), while the surprise came from the Venezuelan Alfonso Mestre, who took the bronze medal with a time of 15:19.60.
